Winter prep

The weather forecasters are guessing we are about to have a winter storm.  This household LOVES winter.  The malamutes are all a bit perkier…..definitely they are doing a lot more talking, so they may be correct.

We’ve begun some preparation, just in case they are right.  We’ve checked the water tank heaters in the barn.  There's plently of hay in the barn and more than enough dog and cat food in the freezer.  We have extra batteries.  The cell phone is charged.

Several weeks ago I washed the coats for the pyrs, Nieve and Wheeler.  Because there is a spitty rain today, which is supposed to turn to snow later, they are wearing their coats for the first time this season.   For the first time in a long time the alpacas are staying cushed under the roof of the run in shed instead of milling around the pasture.  I started building a potato soup from our own potatoes.  Somehow I learned to connect the aroma of soups simmering on the stove with fall and winter.  It is a peaceful time....things slow down. It is easier for me to appreciate this incredible place in which we live and the animals with whom we share our lives.

So, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.  Winter's Hope is ready to live up to its name!

  1. *sigh* being a foodie, I love the smell of soup in the house...it just warms everything! I am not a fan of the cold, but your description is poetic!

  2. Thanks Ann. I'm a little prejudice when it comes to winter though. Tj
